Statewide Stats for New York

New York State Association of REALTORS®The New York State Association of REALTORS® (NYSAR) and 10K Research and Marketing announced today the February 2012 launch of a statewide housing market reporting partnership using combined data from Multiple Listing Services from throughout New York State.

10K will gather and organize housing sales data from the state’s array of 31 MLSs and provide unique, attractive and localized market reports to 33 participating local associations within NYSAR, making each group the definitive voice of real estate in their respective local markets.

A statewide housing trends report will also be created by 10K for NYSAR that will provide an accurate, first-of-its-kind picture of statewide market trends in New York. In addition, there will be statewide quarterly market reports, a detailed annual report, and informative and entertaining monthly market videos.

“Working with 10K, we are able to meet our goal of providing easily understood housing market statistic reports to our local boards and members, which will position them to explain their local markets to the media, clients and customers,” said NYSAR CEO, Duncan MacKenzie. “Based on a combination of proven success with turning complex data into understandable market intelligence and glowing reviews by our local associations already working with them, 10K Research became our clear choice for this monumental undertaking.”

The NYSAR initiative is the ninth statewide market reporting partnership for 10K Research.

“We are certain that 10K can help the state and local real estate associations of New York State achieve the status of go-to information resource for the many distinctive real estate markets in New York,” said Mark Allen, CEO of 10K Research. “This is going to be a satisfying accomplishment not only for 10K and NYSAR, but for the REALTORS® of New York and the consumers they serve.”

Mark Allen will be at Real Estate Connect in New York City, January 11–13 to talk about this and other 10K ventures.

Eight Partners Added

Charlotte Regional Realtor® Association10K Research and Marketing is pleased to announce that the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS®, Charlotte Regional REALTOR® Association and South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® will all soon be launching their own unique renditions of “The Thing,” an online, market analytics tool powered by 10K.

“We are so excited to offer this phenomenal product from 10K Research to our MLS users,” said the 2011 President of Charleston-Trident MLS, Inc., Angie Gainey Bailey. “The interactivity and hands-on aspect will change how they do their market research. It allows them to share up-to-date, accurate information with their clients and deepen their knowledge of what’s happening in their local market, presented in a way that’s far more visually appealing and useful than looking at row after row of figures.”

Several other associations have recently signed on to receive 10K’s market reports including the Columbus Board of REALTORS®, Georgia Association of REALTORS®, Greater Chattanooga Association of REALTORS®, Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® and the REALTORS® Association of the Palm Beaches. The Charlotte Regional REALTOR® Association is also receiving these reports in addition to The Thing.

“We were contemplating trying to do something similar in-house which we knew would be extremely labor-intensive,” said Anne Marie Howard, Esq., Chief Executive Officer, Charlotte Regional REALTOR® Association and Carolina Multiple Listing Services, Inc. “I have worked with numerous vendors in my 10 years in this position. I have never worked with a nicer, more accommodating group of folks. The contract negotiation process was the most pleasant in which I have participated in my career as an MLS CEO. I imagine we will be in a working relationship with 10K for many years to come.”

With the addition of these new partnerships, 10K is now managing six statewide data initiatives (Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, South Carolina and Utah), one provincewide initiative in Canada (Saskatchewan) and dozens of other market reports for associations and MLSs nationwide.

“REALTORS®, their clients and the media in Massachusetts look to us to provide the most comprehensive and accurate housing data possible to provide insight into our market,” said Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® CEO Robert N. Authier. “Working with 10K Research will not only enable us to continue to provide the high quality data we are known for, but to do it in a format that is faster and easier to use and understand.”

10K also added an annual report to the mix in 2011, creating a year-end market view for the likes of the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®, Honolulu Board of REALTORS® and Houston Association of REALTORS®. View Sample

Finally, 10K is honored to have been recognized in the 2011 Swanepoel Trends Report for the company’s innovative use of MLS data to provide market trend products.

New Company

In an attempt to backfill our blog with the 10K storyline, here’s an oldie but goodie.

Houston Association of REALTORS®What do the Houston Association of REALTORS®; MRIS, Inc. in Washington, DC; Metrolist MLS in Denver, CO; and a dozen other real estate organizations across the country have in common? They all partner with a young and growing research firm called 10K Research & Marketing to produce unique market reports for their REALTORS®.

10K takes raw Multiple Listing Service data and packages it into market trend reports that are far beyond what most real estate companies, REALTOR® associations and MLS providers produce on their own. Reports are branded with the logo and color schemes of the partner organization. All the customer has to do is get the reports out to the people who need them.

What sets 10K reports apart are their highly localized nature, their elegant and intuitive visuals, and the important details found in foreclosures, price ranges, property types and more. For as low as $299 a month, it’s a small price to pay.

“Those of us that manage local markets are so used to complexity that the simplest solution is sometimes the hardest to see yet often the most valuable,” said David Charron, CEO of MRIS, Inc., the world’s largest MLS. “10K Research has taken a mountain of data and painlessly made some real sense of it for our 50,000 customers.”

[Editorial Note: MRIS loved what we were doing so much, they left us to form their own research outfit called RBI, or Real Estate Business Intelligence. We wish them well in their journey toward elegant data solutions.]

10K officially launched their website (www.10kresearch.com) and national service roll-out on June 2, 2009 after fast but informal growth driven by word of mouth and referrals. The venture has grown from a small division of the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS® (MAAR) into a national research service company.

“Real estate is local and every area is unique. There is a huge need for better analysis of local housing conditions down to a neighborhood level, especially in a challenging market,” said Mark Allen, CEO of 10K as well as MAAR.

“Reporting the local numbers alone isn’t enough, not even close,” said Jeff Allen, Director of Research Services for 10K. “You need to provide context and make trends easier to understand or you’ll lose people quickly.”

10K also packages market reports into short videos that can be distributed out to agents and consumers as part of their “The Skinny” series. The videos are fast, informative and often downright entertaining—no dry talking heads in need of lip balm. View a sample.

You can see 10K in person this summer when Mark Allen participates in a panel at August’s Inman Connect in San Francisco, or at the July Regional Association Executives Seminar in New York.
